Re: How to unload filament correctly?

What i meant was... Pre-heat - go to Settings, Move Axis, Extruder, and extrude a few mm.... Then Unload! It should unload and the filament comes out easy. 😀

So I put my kit together yesterday and found I had the - unload get stuck - when I printed the beer opener.

Would it be easier to just cut the filament and then extrude a enough to pass it all through the nozzle?

That wont be possible.... If you look inside the extruder, the gears can only push the filament until that point....

You always have to unload it. I dont have unload problems with the 3.1.1 B138 RC3 FW.

Except that prusa3d_fw_3_1_1_rc4_b143 is the latest version...

Thanks,
Ken

Re: How to unload filament correctly?

I'm having the same problem with every time I change filament. It is a bit frustrating since everything else about the printer is so nice. I wonder if perhaps the bondtech gears are creating the bulb as the filament is being withdrawn as soon as the malleable heated bit gets up to them. That would explain the bead. Perhaps heating the filament a bit more before the extraction would work.

Re: How to unload filament correctly?

I got better (not perfect) results by unloading the filament about 15C lower than what I print with.

Extrude a bit before you unload, or use load then unload and it seems to work correctly, at least for me. I had exactly the same issue.

Re: How to unload filament correctly?

Are you needing to pull on the filament to get it out or does it extract itself when you press UNLOAD?

I've been pulling as sson as I click the button to unload and maybe I am being too aggressive. I just saw a YouTube video where the filament almost pops out as part of the UNLOAD command without you needing to touch/pull/tug the filament - this is most definitely NOT what I've been experiencing with my relatively new MK3 and PLA. The guy in video never laid hands on the filament - it just unloaded...magic I guess.

So, I am curious, is the "correct" process to pull up on the filament as soon as you press UNLOAD?

Is this wrong?

Maybe just wait for the message saying to "remove it immediately" and then tug on it?
