first layer won't stick

Hi everyone,

Just got my assembled Mk3 and ran a first print that went great.

Just lucky, I guess, because the next 10 tries have been miserable, with my first layer not sticking. Ever.

I've flashed the new firmware and re-run the wizard.

Done the first layer calibration a bunch of times and my live z adjustment seems to be about -.5 mm.

Can someone hit me with the top two or three causes of this so I can at least try to troubleshoot? What other info would you need?

Thanks in advance. I'm sure this is all user error on my part but it's a little frustrating because i'm having a lot less success with the MK3 than the monoprice maker select I got for $250 🙁

Re: first layer won't stick

Start with the PLA filament. More than likely your probe is not low enough. Take several stabs at the calibration file on the SD Card. Pay VERY close attention to make sure your probe is squishing the bead of filament down a bit. If you can't get that calibration file to print right, you won't be able to print anything else. Keep trying.. you'll get there.

Another thing I found... my bed will require some "break-in". It seems like it doesn't want things to stick well when new, and I have to slow that first layer down to no more than 40%. I will even slow it down more with the knob on the first portions of the first layer.

Also- make sure that bed is CLEAN. If you continue to have trouble, use Acetone to clean it. That usually helps quite a bit.

As reid.b said, it sounds like either you Live Z is not set correctly, or the bed is not clean.

One thing to note. Make sure what you are cleaning your bed with is as pure as you can get. IPA. Acetone. The towels. Don't use things for nails or wounds or tissue with lotion. Those additives will simple be things that prevent adhesion.
