Extruder Screeching

Please see the video for described problem and sound

I am having an issue I cannot resolve. I have tried everything.
Both the printed upgrade and upgrade sent with the MMU 2.0 did not fix this issue.

I love the printer but this screeching will not go away.

It is coming from inside the extruder.

Re: Extruder Screeching

Sorry Wendy,

I get an error trying to download the video...

just a thought...

when you have the screeching, is the part cooling fan running?

if so, can you press gently on the dome in the middle of the fan, and slow the fan down a little? does the noise change?

is the fan speed set at 100% or 255 on the lcd?
if not, can you try setting to 255?

does the noise change?

I can only think of two things that make a screetching noise...
1, fan bearings failing.
2. pwm speed control...

I have had option 1 and made a temporary repair by taking the sticker off the back of the fan, and putting a couple of drops of oil in there, then replacing the sticker. this resolved the problem temporarily, and I ordered a replacement

I am too old to have option 2... My hearing doesn't go that high! i believe it may be possible to raise the PWM speed, but I have never messed in the firmware!

regards Joan

Re: Extruder Screeching

My screeching was due to the passive bondtech idler gear pulley shaft working its way out of place, causing the gears to have inconsistent grip of the filament. Eventually it developed into clicks as the gap widened and grip would get lost entirely. The screeching was probably because at some moments so little surface area of the gears was gripping the filament but with tremendously focused force.
