Err: PRINT FAN ERROR
Hi folks!
I have a strange problem since last sunday. My printer is running for over 80 hours in the last weeks without any problems. I am printing mostly with PETG and every single part prints with nice quality.
But last sunday I was printing a large part. After 30% progress i noticed that the printer does not make any movements. So I went into the room where the printer is and found it with heated bed still at 75 degrees and the error message "Err: PRINT FAN ERROR". I tried to resume the print but after a few seconds of printing the error apears again. So I stopped that print, restartet the printer and tried another (smaller) print. The same error appeared with the second layer. A third and fourth trie also brought the same error.
So I contacted the support chat and reported the error. The dialog partner first asked, if the self test is running through. So I did the self test and it was ok. Then i was asked to check if the cables are ok. I checked it and was not able to find any failures. After that, I was told to do a factory reset. So I also did that, factory reset, self test, calibration routine and everything turned out to be ok. So I thought I was good for printing again and I tried that. And guess what happened? Right, Err: PRINT FAN ERROR
I am at a loss. Self test is ok, printing is not. Some ideas? ❓

I had the same issue but I wiggled the wires where it connects to the fan and I haven't had the error since. There is a loose connection somewhere.

I have been chatting with the support and they will send a replacement Print Fan. Hopefully everything is ok then. But again i have to underline that the support of the Prusa guys is so great. Doesn‘t matter if its sunday Morning or monday late evening - you will allways get a competent support! (Thx again Shane! 😉 )

support suggested unplugging fan and plug back in, don't think that would be the issue

what software are you using support also suggested it could be software i have tried S3D and Octoprint but same error on screen

Hi Guys,
just to let you know.
I had same problem on my MK3 printing PETG when I generated GCODE with Slic3r PE.
I generated GCODE from same STL with PrusaControl and part printed out successfully.
So problem is not HW based.
Did not have time to investigate further but can do it if support guys will give me pointers on what to look for.

In previous version rehoming was not accurate and some small layershifts could appear in case of detected crash or power loss recovery. For proper function of accurate rehoming implemented in current firmware version it is required to re-run selftest.
Extruder multiplier precission fixed
In previous firmware version, there was inaccuracy in counted E coordinate in case that extruder multiplier was set with M221. For 50um layers, the precision loss led to holes in the print.
Fan checks synchronization
In previous firmware versions checking for fans were not properly synchronized with planned moves. Printing using very low speeds and long linear movements could led to false fan errors in some cases. This has been fixed in current firmware version

I just ran into this error on my 1 week-old i3 Mk3 today. I was printing a long snake and the print orientation was left <-> right along the X-axis. After seeing this thread, I rotated the snake to print forward <-> backward along the Y axis. In this orientation, I do not get the Print Fan Error.
I am running firmware 3.1.1, but am tempted to upgrade to the 3.1.2 RC1 firmware if the error happens again.

I have the same problem. I noticed that just before this error occurre, a "click" was hear from LCD. The same sound as when you select an item in the menu.
I have two MK3 printers. Described error appeares only on printer "A". Printer "B" prints the same gcode file correctly.
I exchanged the LCD and problem occured again on the same printer "A".
I have checked wires and I belive they are not broken. I think the error appears at the exact same point (wires are now unwraped).
It looks like the printer will get the instruction FAN POWER OFF (the "click").
Gcode looks correct (instruction M106 is only before second layer and M107 at the end).
Upgrade/downgrade firmware did not solve the problem, nor the latest version 3.1.2 - RC1.
I temporarily exchanged the fan and it works.
It means that either the fan is defective or the wires are broken.
Update: the "click" sound is normal behavior. The same error and the "click" occured when the fan is disconnected durring the running print.
...maybe broken wire? 😉
Confirmed: broken yellow wire in place of cable holder ( X-carriage-back). Soldered, solved 😀

I had the same problem. This FW update solved the problem. No loose wires or anything, just update the FW and it worked great for me.

Still not fixed, I have the same problem. Loaded the latest firmware 3.1.3 and tried to print but still get the fan error at low speeds. I increased the speed and was able to print.

After 2months getting the now famous Err:PRINT FAN ERROR. 😮
The fan stopped running.
I diagnosed it as the black wire being broken about 1-2" from where it is wire tied to the back of the print head. Turning on the Fan and flexing the black wire caused the fan to turn on and off. (Experience in this type of work) I cut out the section of black wire that was bad and soldered in a new piece.
I did a test print of my favorite golf ball and everything was working again. Then I did my working print and after the 2nd layer I got a damn FAN ERROR again! The fan was running, so I suspect it's the feed-back signal that is now bad. In the mean time, I turned off the Fan check to do my print. I guess I have more cable repairs to do.
UGH. Not liking the cable harness on this printer; it does work, just prone to breaking and not easily replaceable.

Update... my printer was under warrantee (< 2mo old) and support is sending me a new fan. Thanks PRUSA!

I had a very similar break in my fan cable. It was reporting a fan error but the fan was still spinning so I assumed it was the tach (yellow) wire. It would print fine with the fan check turned off. I had removed the back of the extruder to adjust the X axis belt and guess I got the fan cable a little pinched under the spiral wrap and/or put a zip tie back on too tight. I could see a "kink" across all three wires with the yellow wire being the worse. This was about 1.5 inches from the back of the extruder. I think only the yellow one was actually broken but I cut out the pinched area and spliced all three to be sure. I added some extra heat shrink tubing to hopefully prevent it from happening again.
