Continue printing after Power Panic incident and cold model

Question raised by fulcrum in another post regarding what happens if you continue printing a long time after a Power Panic incident - does printing hot on cold affect the adhesion between layers ?.

Still waiting for my MK3 so have no experience. If the model has cooled completely will the whole thing come up to temperature (heated bed) if left long enough ?. Not sure about the thermal conductivity of various materials and also the radiation losses.

Given the high temperature of the material leaving the nozzle is it hot enough to melt/partially melt the old layer to provide the necessary adhesion ?.

Would it be prudent to use a hair dryer/heat gun to zap the top of the model to get the ball rolling ?. Obviously care needed !.

From what I understand, the main issue restarting a print will be with ooze from the nozzle when it reheats, as well as small amounts of warping in the part due to changes in ambient temperature.

The plastic coming from the nozzle is cool almost immediately after it's extruded -- that's how bridging is able to work. You're *always* laying down hot plastic onto cold plastic, unless you've got a heated build chamber.

Remember the print bed is cold to the plastic coming out, so the part is not much different. But there is latent heat while printing that does impart some give to the prior layer to lay the next one on. The cold part may not allow good surface contact due to this.

I feel this restart feature is for power outage glitches and very short outages no more than 30 seconds. I have a whole house backup generator and it will start up and stabilize in 15 seconds or less then switch over to the GEN power. The printer should be able to resume by then I would think.
