Consistent vertical bulge in prints
I'm getting a pretty consistent vertical bulge in all of my prints. It's not always the full length up the print, but it's really noticeable. Here's an example from a recent box:
The long side of the box is along the X axis. I thought this was just oozing at the start/end of loops and would be fixed with ooze control in Simplify3D, but it's not actually the start or end of loops. I watched this print pretty carefully and the start/end was in the corner.
Anyone have ideas for what would cause such a consistent line?
Re: Consistent vertical bulge in prints
Another note: it only happens on the outside wall. The inside wall is smooth.
Re: Consistent vertical bulge in prints
thats where your nozzle starts or stops the perimeter and moves to the next layer. you can try a little bit more retract, or that setting that gives you extra extrusion on layer start after retracting, set it to a lower setting, i dont know if a negative value would even work in this case.

That's what I thought too, but as I wrote in my original post: "I thought this was just oozing at the start/end of loops and would be fixed with ooze control in Simplify3D, but it's not actually the start or end of loops. I watched this print pretty carefully and the start/end was in the corner."
Other ideas for what it might be?
Re: Consistent vertical bulge in prints
I have this too sometimes, and like you said, the start/stop of the new layer isn't there, the actual z-seam is somewhere else.
I too have no idea what this is. But it's not always there, so i suspect some Slic3r shenanigans. Perhaps its where he goes from the inner wall to the outer ones, and pushes some excess filament into the cornerpoint of the outer layer start.
upload your print to http://gcode.ws/ and with the bottom slider, you can see what he's doing at this layer.

thats also what can happen, try to print the outer perimeter first

It's from S3D, not just Slic3r, and I believe it's doing outer walls first. I'll double check when I get home, and try the gcode.ws site. Thanks!
