Coating on steel sheet coming off

I just removed the PETG print and discovered that some of the coating came of the steel sheet, is this normal?

P_ETG and TPU stick like crazy

you need to use something as a release agent when printing these materials.
options include
windex, window cleaner
forehead grease
talcum powder
gluestick

and generally a little less squish, than PLA.

your PEI is damaged... you could try
placing prints off centre to avoid that area, or
filling the missing area with glue stick, smoothing it off and baking it in place with the heatbed, this should fil the recess and let you use it again
using painters tape on that side of the sheet,
replacing the PEI sheet

Thank you for your reply.

What do you mean by "squish"?

Besides following joan.t's advice, if you have a stuck part, a little isopropyl alcohol at the base of the print will help release it from the PEI sheet.
In my experience (mostly prints with PETG) the best heat bed temperature to remove the print is 30-40 C.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

The lines of the first layer should be not so squished/flat, resulting in less contact area with the surface. Either by correcting live z, or defining additional z offset in your slicer profile for petg

Yes, I've never seen the alcohol mentioned before, but I tried to use some as a detach aid and the part instantly released 90% easier.

I had the same issue yesterday!

I tried to put some alcohol on it but didn't get any success and some PEI peeled off 😥

By chance, the prints on the surface detached quite well and the PEI peeling only happened on the first intro line, outside the print area. I will tweak the intro gcode to print somewhere else. And will order the powder coated sheet as soon as available!

I read that windex was good to avoid PETG sticking too much but it could be hard to have PLA stick again after.
Since we have 2 faces to print on our sheet I will dedicate one for PETG (windex) and the other one for regular PLA/ABS.

Are you pushing the object up or sides? I think bending the sheet will pop every object without damage PEI.
I have print some 160x160mm PETG objetcs and my sheet looks like new, i use IPA with PETG, no problem to detach bending the sheet

ive probably got 10+ full spools of filament printed in everything from PLA, ABS, PET-G. PC and everything sticks and the sheet keeps going.
If it starts having adhesion problems try the following
1) clean with alcohol
2) clean with acetone
3) light sanding of the surface with scotchbrite pads (and by light i mean two fingers lightly pressing. it shouldn't show scratches as much as a light haze)

I was going to order some replacement sheets as with this much use on buildtak i'd have holes torn everywhere. but this just keeps going.

not sure where you are from, but i am going to take a wild guess based on your name and say europe. if so prusa sells the replacement pei sheets for not that much. you put the spring steel in the freezer for an hour. take it out and the pei sheet will just peel right off and you can apply the replacement.

other than that, you do have 2 sides if you want to wait.

oh yeah and if my guess is wrong, try amazon, they have the pei stickers also.
