It looks like they've changed the XYZ calibration (the one run during the wizard). I just tried the latest code on github - it kept complaining about the X endstop and Z motor (not entirely sure why), but when I ran XYZ calibration, it moved the extruder in circles around the test point, then did a slow pass over the bed, moving the extruder upwards as it was over the test point.

I'd guess this means they use the circular movements around the point to build up an "image" from the PINDA values, and use that to work out where the center should be (using image processing techniques). They could then do a pass where they check the PINDA values against expected values to verify the point. It seemed far faster than the old method.
