Re: Am I the only one

Everyone has a right to their opinion. I am still forming mine as I am weighing options. I try not to have knee jerk reactions.

But, what I will not do is whine about other's legitimate complaints. That would truly make me the childish one.

It's not a big deal to me, I'm okay with the other sheet if I can get my order faster. I'll probably order the other one too once it's available. Sometimes when you're an early adopter you need to be a little flexible.

thumbs up....

to everyone who demands the get what they have paid for wait till January the you can have what you paid for no problem.

Me im happy to have my machine now and get the upgrade when its available.

Re: Am I the only one

The print bed will have to be replaced periodically no matter what material process is used. The powder coated one may be more durable but we really don't know for certain how much more life you'll get out of it. The process was just invented, and therefore has no track record. This matter is not a deal breaker for me since I will most likely have to purchase multiple bed sheets over the life of the printer anyways. I do appreciate the discount on the powder coated one but for me living in the USA, the shipping cost will negate that little discount. It would be nice if they just made you pay shipping and just give us the sheet. I think that would have been a better solution because I can see why people would be a little upset. BUT..... you have the option to wait for the powder coated one, so you'll have to decide whether that's acceptable to you. For me I would rather have the printer in hand so I can get started quicker. Pretty easy decision for me, but my impatience does nullify any bitching and moaning to the company about the matter.

Re: Am I the only one

The name of the company is "Prusa Research." They are one of the few 3d printing companies actually researching and advancing the technology as opposed to making old technology slightly cheaper. I have to disagree with comments like "they are an established company and should never have a single delay or problem." I don't think there is a single "established" 3d printing company that has never suffered a delay or setback. It is completely understandable that the first product shipping with a brand new technology may be a little delayed and/or some things may not work out the way you planned.

That being said, a little more communication from PR during the development process would have gone a long way to reducing the fallout from this issue. For example look at the MMU blog updates where they described what was happening and how they were trying to fix it. (If you think a few months delay on the powder coated sheets is bad, go ask someone who pre-ordered the MMU...)

Also I agree with the comment that an "opt-in" approach might have been better received, i.e. something like "Unfortunately, all MK3 shipments will be delayed a few weeks due to production issues with the powder coated sheets. (But if you're really in a hurry, we can ship you a substitute sooner.)" I'm not faulting PR for this, but maybe just a suggestion to improve things should a similar situation occur again.

It was me said Prusa is an established company, they are, and think you may want to re-read my entire post as I never said "they are an established company and should never have a single delay or problem."... I work for an "established company" that's been in business for over a half century and we still miss deliveries... My point was and is that stuff happens beyond our control but how we handle problems is what defines us...

    *sigh*

Prusa couldn't get a part in time, so they had two options:
    (1) Delay shipping

This is well within their rights, as no explicit promise was made, and a reasonable consumer understands that pre-order dates with an expected shipping date aren't a promised shipping date.

This is what 9 out of 10 companies would do. Just slip the date, provide no reason, and that's that.

    (2) Ship the printer without the missing part, and send the missing part later

This isn't a viable option because the printer is useless without the part. It's also an unacceptable option because people would ruin their printer trying to print directly onto the heat bed.

    (3) Ship the printer with an equivalent part

This is what they chose to do so you don't have to wait for the powder coated sheets, unless they mean enough to you to wait for.

    --------------

So you, as a consumer, either fall into one of two categories.

    (1) I don't give a shit about having a PC sheet, I just want my printer

If that's not why you bought your printer, congratulations! You get your printer on the soft date, because you're willing to take what they can offer right now.

    (2) I give a shit about having a PC sheet,

If that's why you bought the printer, then you wait. PC sheets aren't available yet.

(2a) I'm not WILLING TO WAIT

If you're not willing to wait, then you shouldn't have pre-ordered a machine with a soft launch date. That's on you. Soft dates are soft for a reason (just like you are, snowflakes... j/k but not really).

Prusa promised you what you'd get, and they'll make good on that promise if you give them the time they need to do so. They didn't promise you when you'd get it. They really, really didn't. If you feel they did, you're wrong. Because they didn't.

(Bonus) I shouldn't have to tell them not to send me something I didn't offer

Listen, you *totally* have a point and you're getting screwed by the fact that 90 out of 100 people aren't like you. That sucks.

Either suck it up, and send an email telling them you're weird, or, enjoy your new printer soon.

*sigh* is right... Technically you're right, they said delivery would start in November, or something of that nature, as long as one unit is shipped in November they held their end of the bargain.

Stuff happens for sure and as far as I'm concerned both the apologists and the whiners are equally annoying as everyone has a 3rd option that can be exercised, cancel the order and move on... I won't complain but surely can't justify defending the handling of this either. I wonder how this would have played out if Prusa put their time table out, or some rough version of it, when they started taking pre orders?

Looking forward to Prusa’s article on the Mk3 and “sheet-gate”.
I’ll be off the discussion until Joseph Prusa posted the article.

Pharmaceutical companies often use the word research in their names as well. But you dont see them saying "Hey we have this awesome new life saving pill that we are gonna start selling today, but the actual ingredient that helps the most is not yet ready. You can however take part of this pill and use it now, and later on you can buy the missing ingredient."

Re: Am I the only one

This was a feature i was really looking forwards to. I am sure i can wait for it as the printer will no doubt be great. But in reality i feel really disappointed. I bought the printer on the release weekend and was like everyone else really excited by the new features especially the part we will not receive. To find out i am not getting it and will have to pay extra has really made the wait and my trust in Prusa feel less than before. Which is a shame as i love what these guys do.. Joseph have a word mate.. This is bad practice in my book.

They have stayed really quiet about the delivery date, which they could have been much more transparent. If they had said weeks ago "We probably will not get the new plate done in time" I may have just taken it on the chin. But this feels like they have known about this and not been honest with us all.

I do not want to wait until Jan 18 or later for something i bought on the 24/09/17 but alas i will do. And having to pay for it is something PRUSA need to address. QUICKLY..

I was so looking forwards to this feature, as i have some prototypes i planned to make over the xmas period.. Now i will have to wait and pay for it...GRRRRRRRRRRR

If we have an issue with a long lead item we'll offer to ship with a similar replacement part so I personally don't think it's all that uncommon to do so. I know I wouldn't have an issue taking the replacement print sheet, I honestly don't know how big of a deal it is but I'd rather have a theoretically inferior part that works than a superior part that performs poorly.
