Timelapse camera holder for the moving bed of mk2

Video:

Finally got around to make a video about the camera holder for the moving bed of mk2. Ofc you could use octoprint and make timelapse with the Pi camera, but almost everyone nowadays has a some kind of sport camera that is usually better than the Pi cam (though v2 is pretty decent).
Except being handy for creating timelapse videos it's practical when a print fails, you can just look back at the images and see what happened.

Re: Timelapse camera holder for the moving bed of mk2

i thought about a similar approach, but mounted at the frame instead of the print bed itself.

wouldn't something you pinch between y-carriage and print bed disturb the planarity of our i3 mk2 printing surface ?
the additional mass shouldn't be a problem, i think (my dbpower 1080p is 58gr. including battery). prints could be heavier themselves.

➡ btw. for timelapse of a print, i encountered that a shot every 3 seconds delivers good results...

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Will one of those sports cameras work with a Raspberry Pi hooked up with USB on Octoprint?

Awesome work, thanks!

This one will, I've now added it to the list in the video description 😉

EDIT: I'm an idiot, I read it as "will one of those "holders" work with Raspberry Pi camera", guess I'm seeing what I expected to see 😀 So the real answer to your question is what Jeff said 😉

I'd be shocked if it did, when I slide it in our out, it's really easy and doesn't feel like there's any force worth mentioning beeing aplied to the bed, mostly just friction holding it in.

It really depends, for a big print, 3 second interval will make tens of pictures per layer, which seems too much. I just eyeball the interval based on the GCODE time to print estimation.

@dustin: my dbpower HD1080P (SJ4000 clone) worked "out of the box" with octorpint, i didn't even had to change settings for it.
😀
@mikola: so if the additional force at the printbed is very low and/or moderate, i guess that the meshbed leveling could deal with it.
💡
but i would have a closer look at this issue, because the connection beween y-carriage and heatbed often generates a severe tension at the bed, especially when the holes at the y-carriage are slightly misaligned or filled with coating (so that someone might think that they are threaded: they aren't and shouldn't be !) and the screws don't have enough clearance inside the hole.
