first time on this forum and I came looking for this very information. I just started using ABS for the first time and i was having the same issue with the Z height. I also had to adjust an extra ~.2mm when using ABS and then spent many hours playing around with the height adjust.
is the workaround in the first post still being used by people?

at least I'm still using it.
There still will be some offset between ABS and PLA (and, if other materials with vastly different print temperatures come, they will likely have a different offset yet), but with this workaround this offset is consistent from print to print and does not need adjusting for second (third) print in a row.
The (constant) offset is caused by thermal expansion of the print head, which stabilizes a few minutes after heating the extruder.
It also helps to tie the vertical vanes in the printead air exit grid with a zip-tie - the head can split at this place and this moves the PINDA probe a bit (relative to extruder). A zip-tie will reduce flex of the print-head halves.

Wow. After three months someone noticed that issue at github. The solution will be any year now.
Can't say I'm impressed with the support level, but that's a lesson for me to learn.

I'm surprised this is still a bug. I was pulling my hair out the last few days trying to figure out why my z calibration was getting so messed up when using the ColorFabb HT which runs the bed at 105C.
This modification to the startup gcode seems to have fixed my issues. Thanks for figuring this out and posting a fix!

If the probe is temperature sensitive why don't execute the mesh bed leveling when cold, park the head, heat up and then start to print ❓
