MK3 Kit Suggestions
Hello. I just finished assembling the MK3s kit and have some feedback. Overall, very nice manual and a good kit. But, I have a few thoughts...
1.) The nut in the print fan support fell out repeated during assembly. Clearance is tight there; disassembly and reassembly during maintenance seems likely; and, the whole fan setup involves some pushing and pulling. Why not press in a square nut to stabilize one aspect? I redesigned the part. Seems to work well from my initial testing. 2.) Step 16 of the e-axis assembly should be split into two parts. The square nuts kept falling out as I assembled the rest of the e- axis. Why not wait to put them in the x-carriage until after Step 44?
3.) Consider printed linear bearing holders on y-axis. Slim margin between not too tight and not too loose with the u-bolts is tough to describe for a kit and damaging is easy. Replacements take a while to get here in the US and delay the build. I know more printed parts increase costs, but I think it’s worth it here. 4.) The knob doesn't make any sense from a design standpoint. The nub doesn't have any meaning. Something like this makes more sense and it's easier to turn: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2792829
5.) Putting the reset button so prominently on the front panel is an interesting choice. How often do people actually use it? How often is it hit accidentally in such a prominent place?

3) Tried that and went back to original ones. You have much better control for the tension (once you understand how it should slide).
4) Not really. I can spin with one finger pretty fast. But this is personal preference. Use whatever you like. There are also fancy ones out there
5) I have to admit pretty often. You see printer is doing something wrong -> Reset. You started a print and you see already the mistake -> Reset. I call it a Panic-button.
In general this is a beauty of open source. Do whatever you prefer. You can change (even the reset button) to a place which is convenient to you.

I only use the printed type bearing holders now. The U bolts are not up to the job and after a few hundred print hours they are usualy loose. I have had no issues with the printed type.
And yes i still hit the reset sometimes by mistake.

PLEASE go back to the assembly manual online and add your comments to the manual for each step you thought there should be a change.

Jakub Dolezal is GREAT at making changes to the manual when he feels it necessary and at least your comments can be read by others at any particular step. It's a great way to point out changes that others might actually see and use. There are many comments on the assembly manual and Jakub also replies to many of them.

Many of us use the reset button. I have RARELY if ever pushed it by mistake. I just make sure when I have to use the wheel I am very careful so that I don't trash a print. It is relocatable and there are people that have wired it somewhere else. Not to mention made an enclosure and moved the entire panel somewhere else.
As to the button cover, U holding brackets, etc., I found that mine is working just fine as is (with over 50 days printing on it in 4 months of ownership with some pretty steady printing). I do check my adjustments and I did clean and lube all bearings before using the machine, as well as check the lubrication and tension of the important parts often. It's just the nature of the beast.
As you go along with the Prusa you will find hundreds of mods you can do. Pick and choose to your heart's content. That is the true beauty of RapRap/Open Source.
Did you get to experiment with any special materials yet? Wait till you see the mods for those... 😉 And then there is the MMU2S filament manager for 5 filaments. 😀
