LED Lights
Finally got around to designing some better lighting for the printer. The cables are hidden inside one of the legs and powered by the printers PSU where I added a barrel jack for easy hookup.

It is a little difficult to tell in your photo, but will this interfere with the quad extruder motor setup that was just released?
and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.

That seems like a really clean solution. One of my requirements for lighting is that it helps the OctoPrint webcam image. Do you get much glare from those lights on a camera?
Also - is that design and details published anywhere? That looks like a nice clean design, but I'd want to be sure to get the correct lights, attachments, connector, etc. Did you use 12V lights?

Ayourk, it looks like with the quad extruder nothing else will be able to use the top frame, but who knows. I personally have no plans to get the quad extruder so it's not an issue for me.
John, the only glare I seem to get is when the camera is pointed at the LCD screen. The LED's are tucked into the frame a bit so the light is not spilling out. I sort of just tossed this design together since the printer was free and I had a bit of time on the weekend but it can definitely be improved. I would have probably added 2 sets of LED's to make it even brighter since I mainly print with black PLA that seems to absorb light, and created some holes underneath to make pushing the electric cable in easier. The LED's are 12V, white 5050's I bought on ebay, the male barrel plug I cut off an old wall wart, and the female ones I already had available. The LED holder printed with no supports in 5 pieces as seen below. The end caps snap on, the middle part was glued to the 2 arms after the LED strip was inserted.

I like it. What is the length of the middle part? Does it fit to MK42 heatbed in single piece or is it glued from two pieces?

The middle part is 220mm and is glued into the two outer parts. It wouldn't fit as one piece, and would be more difficult to assemble/print without supports.

Where did you tap into the power supply to get 12V, and do you know how much current could be safely drawn from there?
Enough power for 1 or 2 additional 12V fans to cool the power supply?

If you remove the PSU and take off the printed cover, you will find additional 12V outputs...

Just before I set the house on fire, if I connect my LED light to this two outlets, that will give me the 12V I'm looking for right?

They are the ones. Just check with a multimeter first though...

I've been using Patrik's LED light holders (and his recommended lights) for close to a year. They work well, and provide even, bright light.
