LED light setup

Hey guys, here's my LED light setup based on a standard 8mm wide LED (white) stripe. When I bought the LED belt the light was so super bright I included a slot for a diffuser (0,75 styrene sheet) but right now it lays so deep in the frame it doesn't really bother my eyes. Total cost is about $9 so very cheap and easy to assemble :).

I really like the fact that it looks kinda industrial, like one of those huge CAT machines and it looks way better in real life (like actually it's visually appealing which was surprising to me. Black and orange good color mix)

That look very nice. Do you have the STL files and a couple more pictures on how you assembled.

Now that's a great idea. I presume you are powering it from the printer's PSU? Do you have on on/off switch?

My printers are in a dimly lit corner of my office (pinball machine is blocking the light) and I currently use an LED desk lamp to light them up, but that's not ideal for several reasons.

And I do have quite a lot of spare LED strip.

Thanks

Peter

It's in 4 pieces - 2 frame elements you glue together and 2 attachments which look very much like the spool holder. Nothing fancy 🙂

I'm powering it from a separate PSU and sadly there's no switch. The guy I bought it from had RGB LEDs with a pilot and white without it. Normally I would take RGB but since I already have them behind my screen (something like ambilight by... Philips I think) and they work on the same frequency it would simply not work but I don't mind 🙂

I will look for the STL files, they should still be somewhere on my disc :).

Thank you for checking back and looking for the files. It looks great and it matches the spool holder perfectly.

Didn't notice this before but the way it's designed limits max height of your print to 165mm so I will have to remake it. Don't print it just yet 🙂

Re: LED light setup

I also made a LED support for my prusa.

I had some spare rigid LED bar from my kitchen decoration ... better use them for my printer 🙂

Nice one! Finished the v2 model and I'm going to print it tomorrow along with extended spool holder (with ball bearing) 🙂

Thanks a million. Now I need to find some thin opaque white plastic for the diffuser. Maybe I could print a very thin white one out of ABS?

Re: LED light setup

You could but it's not really necessary. It's just an extra option 🙂
