Also if printing with PETG, try to use a nickel plated copper nozzle since PETG does not stick to it like it does to brass.

Well credit to Prusa, parts ordered yesterday morning, and a 'shipped' email has arrived this morning, so hopefully the parts will get here during the week and I'll be back up and running next weekend. Managed to repair the thermistor, but will use it as a spare and fit the newly ordered one. Fingers crossed - and thanks for the support and patience and indulging my rather irritated mood at the time

Given how fragile the thermistor wires are - I will add a connector if/when I have to replace it.
I already have the connectors, matching the ones E3D provides on there thermistors.

Well kudos to Prusa - I order Saturday morning from the UK, and I had the package in my hands this afternoon on my way home from work. Time to rebuild and learn the lesson! Thanks for indulging my rather bad mood everyone, and apologies.

Well that was the end of that saga. Thanks to all for the advice. I replaced a few printed parts around the hotend, the thermistor, and whilst I was at it, replaced the nozzle and put a silicone sock on the heatblock. Also replaced the r/h y-axis bearing, and it's running like a dream now.

- Always watch that 1st layer go down. The 3D printing gods are easily angered at any hint of arrogance and will punish offenders.
- The odds of something going wrong go up proportionally with the importance of the print, and inversely proportional to the time available.
It's been many, many moons since I've heard/read such truths as true as these. Very wise one, you are. 😌

Evidently my MKS3 arrived with bad thermostor. Been waiting over a week. How did you repair yours?

The thermistor wire broke when I was extracting my hot end from the glob of melted plastic, so I had two ends of wire to play with. Stripped them back, solder them, and insulated them with heatshrink.

I strongly suggest a blob of glue where the thermister wires exit the heat block. You don't want any flexing at that point.
I use silica based muffler adhesive. Good to 1000 C.
