Did you test with clear filament? I am worried that it will not trigger a optical sensor.

Is there a way to attach this sensor to the RAMBO board itself? Without octoprint....

why not simply interrupting the current for the hotend when the sensor detects that the filament is out ?

so you don't need to mess around with another cable to the controller. power supply for the sensors electronic (optocoupler and mosfet then) could be stolen from the heating current too.

don't know whether the controller notices that there is no further heating then, but even if he didn't, it prevents your hotend from baking the last remainders of filament inside. furthermore you could add some of those nasty piezo beepers ...
