Here is a another 30 to 40 mm fan adapter designed by me, It's not "airflow-optimized", but work well. I'm using it for a couple of weeks now. The temperature of the heatbreak is about 5°K higher as with the original fan.

One of the problems of having a straight flush non-angled adapter like this is, does it interfere with the X-axis endstop? This is one of the reasons my adapter is angled at 25 degrees.
and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.

It does not. I'm testing its capabilities just now. There is clearance of about 2-3mm between the fan and left Z lead screw.
Cooling performace results will follow in 10 minutes.

Christian's adapter cooldown time is 9m19s. Almost the same result as Patrik (only few seconds worse), but mechanical design is the best so far (for me).

Perhaps the best option here would be actually doing the airflow analysis and redesigning the extruder part itself. Then we don't have to figure out how to mount it securely while having smooth flow.

I'm done with this project, it works as it should for me and that's enough, I hate over designing, and I have too much to print/work with atm 🙂
The few percentage difference between different designs isn't enough for me at least to keep designing. The average temperature inside my apartment changes more than that between sunny morning --> dull / rainy evening 🙂 I'll come back here if I experience some long term problems/issues with the replacement Noctua fan! Great work all of you involved!

Original fan extruder cooled down in 6m46s. Noctua fan extruder was at 69°C at the same moment.

However I think I will try to find a stronger fan, I do not feel comfortable having a fan that is cooling with an important difference time from the stock one, even if it seems ok in your case.

I should say it seems OK in my case as well. I did my measurements just because I was curious. I did very long test print with PLA and a lot of retractions, with no problems.
We'll see in summer, when air temperature rises 15-20°C higher than now.

I was looking on farnel site, I found some reference of alternative fans. What is a bit annoying is that the product list does not seem to be the same on french and US site :/
SUNON MC30101V2-0000-A99 is a 30 mm * 10 mm fan, with a bit higher cfm (4.6), intermediate static pressure (0.12 '' = 3 mm if I'm not mistaken in the conversion) for a decent 20 dBA nois level. But quite expensive, ~25 €.
For the 40 mm fans, the SANYO DENKI seems interesting: 11.7CFM and 14dBA. No information regarding static pressure. Quite expensive again, ~29 €
a good candidate seems to be, SUNON EB40201S2-0000-999 MAGLev® motor, 20 mm, 7.7 CFM, 21 dbA and 0.16 '' (= 4 mm ?) , while being cheaper, ~12 €.

My experience with SUNON in general is that they don't last. I could be wrong though.

I have no experience in fan durability :/
Do you know if ADDA is reliable ? They make another interesting fan regarding the specs: ADDA AD0412LB-C73GP(P) (6.4 CFM, 19 dB, 0.15inch H2O) and pretty cheap, can be found at 5 €
(Edit: Well 5€ if you order 500, otherwise close to 20 € ...)
