Cyclops extruder

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has fitted the e3d cyclops to their i3 original and if so what was involved? I'd assume it's mainly the controller that's the issue but I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

Regards
Rob

Re: Cyclops extruder

I've been thinking about adding the chimera. But both of those would require an extra extruder motor, which is unfortunately impossible on the RAMBo Mini (unless you are REALLY good with board modification. You would need to start by upgrading the controller extra stepper driver for the second extruder. If you wanted to add the chimera, you would need a second extruder heater output as well.

I believe the full sized RAMBo has this feature.

Re: Cyclops extruder

Yeah, the RAMBo can drive 2 extruder motors.

The other thing to consider is whether any additional heaters are required. I think that the mini (with its 5Amp fuse would struggle with much more than 40W total extruder heating.

The other consideration would be the Bowden feed system which is required for multiple extrusion. This may reduce print quality slightly and there's the consideration of where to install the motors.
