Colorprint unload filament issue

In playing with the Colorprint site to generate filament layer changes, I have found difficulty twice in getting the filament out of the print head. This may be due to a slipping filament during unloading or taking too long to get back to the printer to change the filament. Maybe the filament slipped while trying to unload or parts of the filament left might have remelted back into the hot end.

What I would think would be more useful is to have the printer stop without automatically unloading filament and ask, "Unload filament?". And then, "Did filament unload?". If no, then it would try again.

Re: Colorprint unload filament issue

Your suggestion is a good one for colorprint.

That said, it should unload every time. If it is not, I am guessing the tension on your extruder springs are too tight. They should be about 14mm from the body, WITHOUT any filament in it. If they are much tighter than that, you will have difficulty unloading. Much looser, and it will not feed cleanly.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…
