Bearings

Ive read multiple posts about this but still have yet to figure out good recommendations for alternative bearings/rods. My current bearing from the MK2S kit have lost a few balls and I can hear them rub/grind on each other. Luckily they haven't scratched the rods as of yet.

Ive seen 2 brands/models of bearings/rods to upgrade to including the Misumi and Ugus Drylin. What are the benefits of each? Its very difficult to tell based on the multiple posts.

Also, can either/some be used with the stock rods? They don't appear to be scratched and it would save $ if I could maintain rods.

Thank you!

Re: Bearings

Anyone? I know multiple people have updated their bearings.

Just looking for a better replacement then the MK2S ones.

Re: Bearings

Well, this used to be a much debated topic and to be honest, I gave up arguing over it 🙂

I have used Misumi LMU8 bearings and PSFG8 rods.. they work well and are of way better quality than the original Prusa ones. They are a direct replacement for Prusa bearings, so no fussing required.

I've also used Igus RJZM-01-08 together with Igus AWMP rods for the Y axis. Worked even better for me - they are even more quiet than the Misumi ones, but are supposed to be more susceptible to slight misalignment of the frame. Note: RJZM-01-08 only work for the bed, they are 1mm in diameter bigger than the standard LMU8 and won't fit X and Z. Use RJ4JP there. I have not tested RJZM with the U-brackets of the MK2S.

ATM, i am using Misumi again, but i did prefer the Igus.

Re: Bearings

Stefan, did you notice any print quality differences between when using different bearings/bushings?

Thank you! BR

Re: Bearings

igus has to be aligned very well, otherwise it's going strong and not smooth.

But, if aligned, very smooth printing and quiet.

Be sure, if you are using the right bearings with the right rods, ideally H6 from igus.

Re: Bearings

I've upgraded my MK2 to the MK2S with the new bearings and rods. During the install a few of the ball bearings came out which worried me. The Prusa support guy asked me to continue with the bearings and contact them back if anything goes wrong. I can't notice any adverse effects but it's a bit irritating.

I was wondering if any of you guys have any advice? Are they ok even with a few bearing short? Should I ask for replacements? Should I just buy a couple of replacements and if so where can I get these as I can't see any branding or model number?

Re: Bearings

I'm expecting my kit next week and if I have the same issue with the bearings, I would ask for a replacement!

No, I didn't. And even the unsatisfactory original bearings produced great results at the standard speeds.. They were just way to noisy and started to grind on the rods. I'd love to be able to say: oh, the printer printed so much better with Bearing X, but i didn't notice any significant differences,

There is a huge noise difference - and in my opinion, i could go a tad faster with Igus without sacrificing quality.

So does Igus have bearings that fit the X & Z axis? Do both brands require using their rods as well or do either work on the stock rods?

Thanks for your input!

Re: Bearings

Nevermind 🙂 I saw your input at the end of the post 😛

Can anyone confirm the RJZM works with the U brackets for MK2S?
