RE: What are these layer divots?
what is the shape of that part? Couple of suggestions/guesses -
1. Check the sliced preview in PS - does the gap show up in the preview model? I have had blemishes that I thought were errors in my settings or wear in my printer, only to find that no, the original model had the defect built in.
2 - guess - was this a slanted surface when it printed? Might be under extrusion between layers - if so, couple of options - up the extrusion ration by +0.1, check the advanced setting "add extra perimeters"
3. Could be a seam? There is always a seam, and you can control how it shows up.
Would have to see the part from a different angle to take more guesses

@dan-rogers
Thanks- no gap on the model, it is a digitally generated ring. It is an even surface, but maybe the seam would be something to look into. It looks like it is at layer start point-

It could speed is too fast maybe. What temps are the nozzle and bed? What brand of PLA is it? Does the filament vendor have any special instructions for it? You might zip up your .3mf file and attach it here so folks can look at it. That would answer the temp and speed questions.
