Weird Gcode glitch

I have an I3MKS, that I have been using for some time without problem.  Last night I started a print and when I checked on it, it had gone spaghetti after shifting about an inch out of place half way through.  I tried another model, and on the first layer it's already clear that it's not following the Gcode properly, shifting around, sometimes moving back on itself, not extruding steadily.  After a reboot it does it still.  These are not new models, I have been printing them for some time.  Any ideas what could cause this?

Check your axis for smooth movement. If you have sticky bearings then it can cause issues like this. Or check your belt tension but you would probably have noticed that. Did you lubricate the bearings when you built it ?  If not then the operational life will be reduced. If you do have sticky bearings then you will need to disassemble, clean and repack with grease.

Thanks for the response.  It wasn't a sticky bearing, but that got me looking the right place.  Turns out the setscrew had come loose on the Y axis motor, allowing some play (the motor could spin from one end of the flat part of the shaft to the other without the belt turning).

Normally a loose motor pulley gives a less than 5mm offset, often but not always correcting back again after a few layers which is why I didnt suggest that.  An inch is not just loose its completely undone lol.
