Vertical surfaces printing very unevenly

I have printed this model about 28 times now. Sometimes in PLA, sometimes PET-G. Sometimes one item at a time, sometimes two, sometimes four, and sometimes nine. Sometimes, the print comes out perfectly, but often (50% or so), it has this horrible "wobble" in the vertical surfaces. Sometimes it's only in the base, sometimes only in the stem, and sometimes it's in both. I haven't done much to the standard settings, except to try different styles of infill, and different infill percentages, but those changes don't seem to make a difference.

When I print multiple items at once, some of them turn out fine, and some don't, which is really a mystery!

It certainly looks like my printer must be wobbling, or the print head is, or some part of it is, but I have checked everything and I can't find any part of my setup that seems like it can wobble even a tiny amount. The printer sits on a countertop that is rock solid.

I sure would appreciate some help with this! Thanks!

Joan, that was it!!! Both screws on the Z motor were just a tiny bit loose, but loose enough that the rapid movement of the print head was allowing it to move. Thank you so much!!!

RE:

The hint was that the layer alignment moved back and forth by approximately the same amount. Something must be constraining the main s alignment loose screws tend to jam intermittently so the occurrence of misalignment is a bit random.

You don't say Which printer you have 'z' is normally up and down

On a Cartesian printer the X and Y motors do the fast movements.

On a Core XY printer it's normally A and B motors which do the fast moves

Happy printing

Joan
