Vertical lines not vertical
I have a very simple design that wont print properly. The vertical lines once printed are not vertical ... Updated to slicer 2.4 and tried several settings and all the prints are wrong . Printed a testcube just to be sure and that is OK. What can I do?
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
That looks like a mechanical issue, not software. Unless that slope is in the preview ? Most likely a loose grub screw on whichever axis stepper motor. Check that it is still secure and retighten it properly so it doesn’t come loose again.
If it not the grub screw then check your belt tension is still correct.
RE:
Thx. I checked all the screws. Nothing loose. Must be a software problem.
The design is a flat box with another box under 67.5 degrees cut out (attachment).
I changed the angle of the cutout to 60 degrees and now it prints fine. Strange!

Looks like layer shifting to me. possible motor skipping a step
I agree with @neophyl, something is slipping, try loosening the grub screws, checking their position and then retightening.
Cheerio,
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
I checked all the screws and the belt tension and cannot find anything wrong. As told a testcube prints perfectly and also the changed design with 60 degrees (horizontal) angle. The left one (green) prints perfectly and the right one (red) does not.

In which case would you mind posting both the 'good' and 'bad' models. I'm curious now and I'd like to try printing them with my hardware/profiles.
RE:
Sure! You are more then welcome. Could not upload here so please get them from git: stand-60-OK.stl and stand-67.5-WRONG.stl

You need to ZIP files in order to attach them on the forum.
Mk3S+,SL1S
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
Like that 🙂 However I did grab them from github and both are currently printing. So far both bottoms look identical and straight. Got 5 minutes left on them. Printing with some basic recycled PLA I had loaded.
I'd say that it was something mechanical or something is out of whack with whatever printing profiles you are using.
If you save a project file from PS (File>Save Project As) that will generate a 3mf file. If you zip up and attach that anyone can load it in and see all the settings etc. Its basically a snapshot of the print as it will contain the models, any modifiers, the print, filament and printer profiles being used and any other factors. Its great for debugging and also good for archive purposes on old projects as you can load it back in later and have it all there.

@neophyl
What brand and color yellow is that? I like that yellow.

My Mk3 is way behind on firmware updates. I'm of the if it aint broke dont fix it school of thought and it is printing fine so I dont bother updating. Nothing in the new stuff I wanted to use anyway.
Swiss is actually more of a caramel brown in person, although 3dJake calls it orange https://www.3djake.uk/3djake/rpla-orange
I quite like their recycled range, the colours are fairly matte and its not bad stuff. Seems to print ok and its cheap-ish. At least where I am.
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
Thanks,
I'll have to see if they deliver to the states, I like their green and blue also.
I'm still running the original firmware (V 3.3.1-845) on my MK3.
No issues what so ever.

RE: Vertical lines not vertical
Wow thats even earlier than mine. I'm on 3.7.0 and still using the original filament sensor from the mk3, although it does have a metal bearing between it and the filament now which makes it a lot more stable and means it doesnt freak out on clear filaments.
I *think* the recycled range 3djake sell is sourced from elsewhere and rebadged as I've had identical stuff with different labels from 3dfilaprint in the uk too. Same spools, same colours, everything. So you might be able to find a US supplier.
I think the only colours I've not had have been White and the Green. The 'silver' was more olive drab, I really like the blue and the red is nice and muted too.
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
Updated the firmware to 3.10.1-4697 Then I turned the print 90 degrees and printed again.
Only the x-axis (left and right side of the model is distorted- and not the front or back side).
So I realised that the real problem is mechanical in the x-axis somewhere.
I adjusted the x-axis belt and made it a bit tighter. The 3 frontscrews were tight but the back one was a bit lose (which should not matter, but now it is tight).
This did not solve the problem. Examined the extruder block/part which looks tight.
I don't know how the problem is caused and I don't understand how I still can print a lot of designs without problems. Printer is a year old and printed 1000mtr/28hours. Please suggestions ...
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
If it’s the x axis is your cable bundle hitting anything? If it is it acts like a spring. If I had to guess 😊 As it’s the lower layers being effected I would see if it’s hitting the cable that heats the bed. If the 2 cables are interfering with each other is certain combinations of position then it could cause something like this.
RE: Vertical lines not vertical
Thx I will check this today!
