Vertical artefacts
Hi,
I've printed a box with a divider using the Prusament PLA Galaxy Black, but I've got two vertical artifacts on each long side.
The thickness of the wall was 1.25 mm, which PS was slicing with two external perimeters and one gap fill, with the junction to the internal wall as a perimeter.
So the artefacts seem to be aligned with the junction to the internal wall, but what can cause this?
I've also learned that the "standard" thickness for a 3 perimeter wall has to be 1.27 mm. So I've created a new box with that wall thickness and I've sliced it.
So there is no more a gap fill. I'm going to try to print it and I'll let you know how it goes.
RE: Vertical artefacts
When internal features cause bulges on external walls, the usual things you can do to fix it are:
- Slow down external perimeter speeds.
- Calibrate extrusion width for your filament to ensure there is no over-extrusion causing outwards bulges on solid layers.
- Add an external perimeter if possible.
- Thicken the wall if possible.
Lots of background in this thread. Sounds like you're already thickening the walls so that may well do it.

RE: Vertical artefacts
@bobstro: Thank you for your feedback.
I've printed the box with the 1.27 mm walls. I'm getting one recessed artefact and one bulged, but only on one long side. The other one is perfect.
But I've noticed that the walls are wrong. By design they should be 1.27mm, but actually they are more 1.60mm!
I'm not sure if this is a slicer problem or an extrusion problem 🙁
Anyways, as per your suggestion, I'll have a check at the calibration first.
Thank you!
RE: Vertical artefacts
The recessed section looks to be where your seam is.
Depending on the settings in slicer the seam gets placed in different places. Due to your selection and the model geometry Slicer is putting the seam there. That's why its only on one side. If you turn on retractions in your print preview you should see little dots, this usually matches the seam placement (if you have retractions on in print settings),

If you'd care to save a 3MF project file, zip it and upload it here, we can take a look to see if anything's off in your settings.

RE: Vertical artefacts
I've attached the two projects: one with the 1.27mm wall, the other with the 1.25mm wall.
I've tried the "external perimeters first" setting and it seems to help.
