Two process printing - on second process layer shifts

Looking for some guidance. While Slic3r PE works pretty much flawlessly for me, I needed to figure out a way to print to a certain layer height and then move the extruder allowing me to insert a nut into a knob and then resume printing through to completion. I ended up buying a copy of Simplify3D and learned how to do 2 process printing, but I'm running into a snag. All goes fine and I am able to insert the nut, but when the second process kicks in, it's not aligning properly with the bottom. Any ideas on what might be going on here?

try using pause and resume from the printer control screen if you don't bump things too much inserting your nut it should be fine

Thanks, I was trying to avoid having to watch that closely. I'm going to try producing the same gcode , ie. two models - one for bottom and then one for the top using Slic3r. Will post back my results when I get the chance.

You can also use the "change Filament" feature. GCODE M600.
The Prusa Website offers a tool where you can add Color changes to an specific layer.
I use this feature to insert magnets in some of my prints.
The only inconvenience is the fact that you have to do the colorchange (of course with the same Filament).
Works perfekt for me.

Update: tried another 2 process print, this time with slic3r. Exact same issue again as Simplify3D. Must have something to do with the printer itself. Anyway... I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out, so simply went with:

1) Pause print
2) Lift z by 10mm
3) Insert nut
4) Drop z by 10mm
5) Resume printing

Result = perfection! 🙂

it used to always work flawless, they screwed something up not too long ago. safest bet is the change filament option. the pause seems to loose track on the Z. but then it fixes itself, the oddest thing.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
