Trying to Print Bracket
Hello,
I'm trying to print this angle piece (or bracket) to use in constructing a box out of acrylic. When I tried to print this without supports the horizontal slot is full of strings and won't fit over the acrylic. When I printed using supports everywhere I had a hard time removing the support piece and the horizontal slot was still not clean enough to insert the acrylic. I am currently trying to print it standing on end without supports but the print time more than doubled.
RE: Trying to Print Bracket
the most obvious orientation is standing in vertical so no support is needed.
if you need it to be printed in horizontal, you could design some sort of detachable-support on the horizontal empty space.
one more option, but can be more tricky, is to design a detachable base on the corner, so that the actual part will be printed with the sides 45°.
I'm not sure i can explain myself in the last one 😆
I'm not an expert. Ma parlo anche italiano 😉

recommend adding fillets at the obvious place this is going to break.
RE: Trying to Print Bracket
My advice: Accept that it will take twice as long! Even with the best support settings you will never get anything as clean as printing it vertically. I don’t know where the pressure is going to be here but I suspect printing vertically will also improve stability. You can shorten print time by using a large layer height, e.g, 0.3mm for a 0.4mm nozzle, or switch to a larger nozzle. From what I’m seeing here, I would probably print this with at least a 0.6 mm nozzle/0.48 mm layer height, or even a 0.8 mm nozzle.

RE: Trying to Print Bracket
Thanks for all of the advise. I decided to bite the bullet and print the supports vertically and they are coming out great.
