Stringing/Oozing Ugly

I used to get nice clean prints with this model, but recently I am seeing artifacts that align with the stringing/oozing talked about in the Simplify3d Print Quality Guide.

They recommend increasing the retraction distance (although Prusa's guide says anything more than 2mm is a waste). I've also increased the retraction speed AND lowered the extruder temperature.

All these changes have had no real effect - I continue to get this stringy/ugly look.

Any ideas? I also have 2 Prusa MK3s and I get the same results on both using 2 different brand filaments.

I've also tried increasing the size of the model (each "bar" is now 2mm thick instead of 1.5mm) - no change in quality!

1st thing to try is another filament. If you didn't get stringing originally and do now, humidity impacting the filament is a distinct possibility. Dry your current filament, or try a fresh spool that has been stored properly.

Using a different brand filament (PLA+ from eSun) works much better. Not perfect but acceptable.

I've tried different PLA filaments and they both ended up stringy.

So, PLA+ works, but PLA does not. I'd love to tweak settings to get the PLA to work.

IF that same PLA worked better before, tweaking settings will only do so much. Consider drying the filament out.

To reduce stringing, try disabling Printer Settings->Extruder 1->Retraction->Lift Z (set to 0). That may improve stringing, but you may get stop surface scarring as a result. I am getting good results with theses settings:

Again though, if you're trying to compensate for deteriorating filament with hardware settings, you're only going to get so far.
