Sorry if wrong place to post. First time, can I print this oven/stove knob support?

Please, if there is a better forum for this kind of chat please let me know.

My oven knobs have broken off and the reason is there is a plastic mounting bracket that fits the knob to the post.  The replacement OEM knobs are crazy expensive.

I modeled this as best I could and came up with this first draft (the ring around the center post isn't there yet in the draft model).

Looking at the geometry it seems like I can't print this as is.  Maybe add some supports?  You can see on the bottom that the center post drops below the main housing floor.

Can members look at this file and rotate it and give any ideas on whether this might be able to be printed?

Hmm, can't attach directly.  Is there a common online repo for sharing?  I'll try this one for now... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3673143 Not even sure how others can rotate the view.

Thanks

Noob.

I've done some fine tuning of the dimensions.  Here is a fly-by if it helps.  I'm looking to determine if this is something that can be printed with a Prusa i3 MK3S and whether you think the material would be sturdy enough.

Just let Plicer add supports ... no biggy.  Though you may want to flip the part so the ugly side is hidden inside the knob face.

... just don't use PLA, it softens at 60C which can cause it to deform if your knobs are mounted directly above the oven door or a burner... 🙂

PETG or ABS are better choices, but if you can print polycarbonate then that's probably the winner...

Are all of your suggested materials supported by the i3-MK3S or should I just use an outside shop.  This task would be the first of perhaps many utility type tasks that could be used.  Probably not financially sound but quick turn-around times and the fun factor might be enough to convince me to buy the unit.

Thank you for your advice!

Do post if you have any questions. PETG is probably the easiest to deal with if you are a beginner and should hold up well enough.

PETG can damage the PEI sheet if not prepared properly.  Be sure to use Windex or GluStik before printing.

RE: Sorry if wrong place to post. First time, can I print this oven/stove knob support?

I paid a service for a quick prototype of the unit in PLA because it was cheapest and I wanted to check the fit.  $6+$6 shipping.  I'll have to decide if I can get away with splurging on a toy.  I would really love the flexibility of doing this myself.  Maybe I can sell some repair parts on amazon or ebay.  I see some people selling similar ones for about $30.  Avoiding replacement of a full knob at $110 per unit by just replacing the plastic adapter.

I am not foolish enough to think it would be an investment but it might make me feel a little better.

Thanks for your advice here, I'll post back once the prototype comes in and what I decide to do with a purchase.

So you don't own a Prusa printer ...  lol.  Don't bother coming back to post.... you'll be ignored.

I very well may hit the 'confirm' button on my shopping cart but thought it would be prudent to see if my very first job would even be possible after an $800 investment.  If and when I hit confirm on the payment, it certainly won't be because you blocked me though.  I do appreciate the comments indicating that this job might be a good fit for the Prusa printer.

I'm just an owner trying to help other owners ... and have no authority to block any one.  But I do have my own permission to bypass future requests for assistance.  lol.  Due diligence is important, and I appreciate the fact you are asking.  But posting the question as if you are an owner with a problem was a bit deceptive.

@Heneryh, please excuse tim-m30.  From my perspective, potential purchasers of Prusa gear are more than welcome in this forum.  The Prusa printers are wonderful, and the forum is very active and supportive; I wouldn't want you to be driven away to another printer because of one negative comment in the forum.  It's clear that you have some pretty good CAD skills, and you have a helpful attitude, so in the long run we all on this forum will benefit from your purchase of an MK3S and your membership  in the forum.
