Slicing Bug, Missing Section of Part - PrusaSlicer 2.0.0

Hey All,

I ran into an interesting conundrum when slicing a part. (PrusaForum won't let me upload an STL of the model, what other formats can I use?)

I've created a part that has an overhang greater than 45 degrees. In order to make the part more likely to successfully print, I added this "overhang support" with angles all less than or equal to 45 degrees.

However, when I hit slice, an entire section is missing.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Settings:

  • Print Settings: Preset 0.20mm QUALITY MK3
  • Filament: Generic PET
  • Printer: Original Prusa i3 MK3S
  • Supports: None
  • Infill: 15%
  • Brim: No

Version

  • PrusaSlicer version 2.0.0+win64
  • Build PrusaSlicer-2.0.0+win64-201905201652

Looks like the section not slicing isn't really connected, nor is it manifold, so it's being ignored.

poor/quick edit - fixed.zip

Here's the STL in a ZIP.

Thanks for the fix Tim!

I went back to my original model in SketchUp and it shows that it is a manifold. However, Sketchup has been pretty wonky when high precision is required. I deleted, and redrew all the edges and faces between the two segments of the piece and that worked as well.

There must've been some kind of rounding error in my original STL export.

Thanks again!

I suspect the added section wasn't really attached, and was simply a set vectors/vertices in free space, attached by a single line at a single point in the middle of the original part. I didn't do any 3D analysis, just used Meshmixer to find the red lines, then made it a filled solid and allowed some slop to include the bad vectors.

Bottom line, Slic3r, and the follow-on Prusa Slicer (Plicer is what I like to call it), usually does a good job with even broken parts.  When it does fail, almost always the part model is at fault.
