Self-watering planter reservoir

Hello,

I'm trying to print this self-watering planter: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:903411

I'm using IIIDMAX PLA+, printing at .3 resolution, with 10% infill - as the post suggests, but I'm the funnel portion is just peeling/stringing away from the piece:

I've successfully printed other funnel objects, this one is confusing me though. (other funnel):

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Dizzy, 

Your funnel slope is a low angle (looks like less than 45degrees)
0.3mm is a large layer height
Slopes print by part of the new layer resting on top of part of the last layer
the thicker your layer height the smaller the overlap between successive layers
your issue seems to vary depending upon which side of the model the filament is on. 
there could be a number of issues
the difference between sides may be due to uneven cooling... sometimes turning a model can put the overhang where the cooling is good, but circular models defeat that option...   Is your part cooling set to 100%? is your fan shroud well formed and un blocked? is your part cooling fan running quietly? as fans age, the bearings wear, and you can get to a situation where the fan makes a  buzzing/rattling noise and runs slowly, if this is the case, often a drop of oil under the sticky label behind the hub of the fan will temporarily restore normal running and give you time to order a replacement.
the filament seems to be drooping quite a lot, maybe you could print at a lower extruder temperature,
you could try printing at a lower layer height to get better overlap between layers (Use variable layer height so that the lower part still prints fast)

using a wider External Perimeter, 'Extrusion Width' often helps as well this has the byproduct of increasing overlap between layers.
youmneed to have slicer in advanced or expert user mode, to see  extrusion width settings

0.3 mm layers with a steep overhang is always going to be difficult with a 0.4mm nozzle.  Luckily this part can easily be inverted and should print OK with the wide end down.

The original was not well designed for 3D printing, I'd guess it was originally a ceramic co-opted to fdm.  You may have trouble with the base of the reservoir, adding a small chamfer to reduce the overhang should help.

And the designer's printing suggestions are highly suspect; it would be worth reading these before slicing:

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I will try .2mm layer height and I'll try to invert the cone and see if that helps.

Thanks for the articles as well, will be good to learn more about tuning for optimal overhangs.

It was printed the way it sits in the planter, upside up, without supports 👍
