PrusaSlicer supports sagging under their weight

I selected “supports: everywhere” for this print, which took almost 24 hours to complete. In retrospect, I should have aborted it after noticing that the supports began sagging under their weight, deviating away from the main body of the object, very early in the process. I’ve had surprisingly good results printing other objects without any supports, so I continued this print, hoping for the best.

The results were disastrous, as shown by the accompanying images. The top angled tab, for which the supports were included, is visibly warped, strangely distorted both upwards and downwards (the tab should have been planar with the other angled top surface and uniformly 5 mm in thickness).

Analyzing the supports, it appears as if only the column closest to the main body has adequate horizontal linkages stabilizing it whereas the others do not. I’ve had excellent results using supports (albeit much smaller ones) on many other objects. I assumed that PrusaSlicer would be smart enough to generate whatever supports it needs, but it evidently did not in this case. Any ideas why and what I could do to prevent such problems in the future?

BTW, I used Overture PETG filament, which has given me excellent results with everything else printed with perhaps 6 kg of filament (excellent but not superb; Prusa PETG seems tougher and less brittle but isn’t as convenient to purchase).

Unfortunately, this forum’s software clipped off the bottom of the images I uploaded (at least in the preview).

I might suggest changing the support pattern to a grid or honeycomb, and possibly changing the support angle to 45 or 90 degrees to get some strength in the support material.
