Re: Problems with original Prusa silver PLA

My problem filament I describe here was prusa silver that came with the printer. The diameter got so big in places as to cause jams:

Support identified it as from their old supplier, before they moved to making it in-house, and are sending me a new roll.

That's interesting...well,i can't rule out my filament, but since my jams happened on my local filament, too i can assume that this is probably not the cause of the problem. Since installing heatsink on extruder motor and keeping doors of enclosure open during printing jam didn't happen yet. I didn't install duct fan yet, but i have it finished and ready as a last resort...

Thank you for reporting this issue, it's important thing to know. I admit that i wouldn't think that width can be too big...

Latest update on this issue: problem still persists, although not so aften as before. I printed and installed new parts (R3) which supposely better cools heatbreak, but since now we have a "heatwave" with temperatures over 30 degrees outside i have frequent filament clogs, again on the same spot: right below gears. I have alluminium cooler mounted on extruder motor, but it still achieves quite high temps, so i guess next stage is installing fan as i mentioned before and hope for the best...

i had the same thing with my .05 Tardis. for fun use prusa control to slice it. for SCIENCE!

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Re: Problems with original Prusa silver PLA

Prusa control is a dead thing. Supposely prusa will incorporate a part od user interface in future releases of slic3r. In any way prusa control uses slic3r engine anyway. I could play with it, but i'm pretty sure that problem is too hot motor and nothing else. If motor reaches 55-60 degrees than gears pretty quick also reach that temperáture, and that's limit point for PLA where it becomes soft...
Problem are small things, where there's a lot of retraction with small forward push, so filament is traveling up and down practically at the same spot...

Re: Problems with original Prusa silver PLA

I do feel your pain. but when I went from slicer, to PC default .05 my tardis survived the print. I was thrilled when it got past the first set of door retractions. and it looks ok no (choking points)

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Interesting... ok, i can give it a try and see. The only thing i see here is that retraction settings are obviously different, maybe less agressive..
