Problems with orange filaments
Hi all, this may sound strange, but I'm having trouble printing with orange colored filaments.
I tried PETG, ABS, now ASA, all cause the same issue: while printing, suddenly the printer stops, starts beeping and tells me to unload the filament. Once I do that I load it back up, the printer picks up where it left off and continues printing. But this weird behavior repeats almost every 30 minutes of printing or so. Which is absolutely unacceptable.
I have never had this issue with any other filaments I used (mainly PETG, ABS, various colors, but mostly black).
Any ideas?

Hi @luka-d6
Could be a coincidence. I would suspect the filament sensor, which detects your false fillament runout.
Try this trick - from the printer menu set fillament sensor off. The autoload will not work, but if you print successfully, then certainly the sensor is not functioning correctly - you will then find here oh the forum several hints how to repair.

Btw. Do you have mk3 or mk3s? It is important as each of them has different fillament sensor. The mk3 has poor optical (which might be colour sensitive) mk3s has a mechnical/optical combination in which sometimes the sensor mounting causes issues.

RE: Problems with orange filaments
Thanks for the tip, I'll try it on monday when I'm actually able to supervise the print.
I have the MK3 only.
Strangely only the orange colored filaments cause this issue, but the truth is I mostly print black, once I had brown and a yellow filament, all print fine, only the bright "safety" orange ones cause this issue.
But thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try as printing orange would be helpful for me as I need bright colors for safety/clarity reasons (we use 3D prints in actual factory for various support tasks like parts feeding, sorting, etc...)

I'm still running my original Mk3 configuration with the R2 parts and have no intention of changing. I found my filament sensor degraded over time until I finally got around to cleaning it and periodically giving it a blast with an air canister. It's still sensitive to some filaments, but I've found regular clearing helps to the point that I usually leave it on unless a specific filament causes problems. Try cleaning yours out and see if it improves.

@bobstro
Thank you. I hope switching the filament sensor off would help get me through some of the parts I need printed overnight unsupervised.
I'll go check on the printer in an hour or so to see if this solution helped.
RE: Problems with orange filaments
Note that the upcoming 3.9 firmware has some appreciable improvements with regards to the optical sensor, so you should also see some improvements once that is released.
RE: Problems with orange filaments
Thank you, guys, for your tips. Disabling the sensor really did help and I was finally able to print orange filament parts without a single stop or issue! Thank you!
