Problem printing PET (PETE) not PETG on my Prusa MK3

Hello, i couldn't find any info on this, PET is really different from PETG (which prints fine on my printer).

I cannot print successfully with it, the print starts, but after a dozen or so layers of 20x20 calibration cube filament starts skipping and eventually stops flowing altogether. I have tried the temp from 260 to 280. When print is restarted its starts to flow again (i can also load unload filament successfully into preheated to 260C hotend. I've made retracts 0.2 mm, i'v read that retract can interfere with this filament due to crystallization, however i'm still getting failed prints after 4-5 mm of cube have been printed (perhaps nozzle getting further from the bed and getting colder? Anyone had successful prints with PET on Prusa? PETG experience isn't applicable here as PETG doesn't crystallize like PET (PETE)

More heat and a larger nozzle may help.

Bob,

Thanks for the link to your Muppet Labs page.  I was having severe non-adhesion problems with PETG, even with a brand-new filament roll, alcohol wipes, and multiple first-layer calibration runs.  After reading your notes I washed my smooth PEI sheet down thoroughly with Dawn, dried with paper towels, and voila!  Beautiful prints again!

THANKS!!

Frank

PET needs to be dry, and it likes it hot.  It sucks up moisture quicker than nylon.
I use 270C with 0.4 retractions.  So, you should be close.

@bobstro

Thanks, i'm going to try more heat (although it failed again at 285), larger nozzle is not an option as people are printing this material with 0.4 successfully (even with 0.3), and that is the nozzle i need. In general i'm aware though that PET likes larger nozzles

@peter-k42

Thank you Peter, i'm glad someone is using the same printer to print it successfully. Might be the filament then, should try to dry it somehow. It arrived so tightly packed with a ton of desiccant, so i thought it should be fine as it went straight into the printer. I have tried 270 and 0.4 retract - same result. I suppose i need to give that filament extra attention.
