Printing with a filament smaller than 1.5mm
For an experimental project I want to print with a certain filament which is smaller than the normal filament diameter of 1.5mm. However, I am afraid that as a result of this, the molten material moves upward instead of downwards and will clog the hotend. Therfore I have not tried this yet.
Does anyone have experience with printing with smaller filaments? or have an idea what could happen if I try this?
Re: Printing with a filament smaller than 1.5mm
Sounds risky for exactly the reason that you mentioned, molten filament may flow in the wrong direction. I wonder why you are willing to take the risk. There are plenty of proper sized filaments out there.
If you really need to try it, you might want to make it easier for filament to flow out the nozzle. Maybe increase the temperature by 5-10 degrees. A larger diameter nozzle might be a good idea.

maybe do a flow calibration for it. and print slow
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
Re: Printing with a filament smaller than 1.5mm
Given that everything must be tuned so well to produce good prints, may I ask why? A roll of cheap PLA is about $10 these days. You're risking damaging parts costing more, not to mention down time if you have to do a massive cleanup.

Thank you for your advice!
Unfortunately, getting the right filament diameter will be hard. Is it maybee possible to buy different diameters of hotends?
