Printing Issue

Hey all

I am trying to print this:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3250390

File labeled "Earring_Holder_2".

Every print about a 1/3 of the way through it seems to hit the object (my guess) and gets stringed and moves one of the bottom pieces...

Attached are my settings for this. I am doing painted on supports under the main ridges... I am at a loss on what is going on...

Thank you!

RE: Printing Issue

what would be helpful to know is how you're orienting it on the plate.   also maybe a picture of the failed state too.

For this kind of question, it's best to follow these instructions https://forum.prusa3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/How-to-save-and-upload-a-project-1.pdf to save the project as a 3mf file, zip it, and upload it, so we have the STL and all the settings.

Formerly known on this forum as @fuchsr -- until all hell broke loose with the forum software...

That's a pretty big print.  And a lot of support material.  is the support material what's getting moved?  you can make your supports stronger by having it print a sheath around them.  I usually try to get it to print the supports in such a way that that there are no single tall thin supports as I've had the issue of the support getting knocked over at higher points in the print.  your .3mf seems to have a color change in it it too, at about 1/3 of the way up.  is this the point that that you have problems?  it might be helpful to see some pictures of the failure too.

That is bizarre no there should not be a color change and yes it's about that point. That's really funny because I was about to post why does it stop 1/3 of the way through LOL.

Excuse my ignorance how do I remove that?

Also to eliminate anything silly is that screw in far enough?

So yes this fails exactly after this color change seen below... That must be it.

That screw is in WAY too far.  it should generally(in my experience) just be flush with that bolt under the hex window.  Having that in as far as you do was causing me huge problems with the MMU.

You can remove the color change by hitting the "slice now" button and then over on the vertical bar you you'll see the two colors.  Right at the break you should be able to click on the color change and remove it.  Changing colors should NOT break your print though.  you might try changing that support material pattern to honeycomb.  I find that supports that tall in rectilinear tend to warp as they get taller.

RE: Printing Issue

That thing is not the best design.  All of those surfaces that are straight across and will be laid down on supports will not be smooth.  I'd consider:

Hacking that design

Finding a different design

Pulling up something like blender, tinkercad, etc and throwing together something that doesn't have as much bridging in it.

Oh dear - I better check into this on my printer because my bolt protrudes though the nut about the same amount as that picture.

RE: Printing Issue

Here's both my printers.  I've had the bolts like that for over a month because support said they should be that way.  In my case it was causing intermittent filament loads with the MMU.

Thank you for this information. I seem to remember that the assembly instructions suggested that the head of that hex bolt should roughly be flush with the extruder housing when no filament is loaded. I can't check it at the moment because there is filament loaded and it is printing. A project for tomorrow I think...
