printing from sd card

I just started with a new I3 MK3S, and copied an .stl file to the sd card, also used slicer to convert to .gcode and copied to sd card. When first starting the printer neither new file is shown on the screen. All files that came with the card  are displayed but not either file I copied to it. Checked the sd card on a usb card reader and all files show up including the 2 new files. Why won't the print controller show the new files?

RE: printing from sd card

could you have exceeded the 100 files on the card?

I get a message saying that not all files will be displayed, when I have a lot of files on the SD Card

What was the name of the files(s) ?  The Mk3 8 bit microprocessor base boards have trouble with special characters.  If you use the wrong characters then they cant be shown.
Stick to basic alphanumerics, a to z  and 0 to 9 if you want to be safe.

First one is cow.stl, the second is COW_0.4n_0.2mm+PETG_MK4IS_38m.bgcode. The same format and charactors all the other files use, and they all print correctly.  The second I now see specifies the MK4IS and can understand that now. But the spects on the I3 MK3S says it can use .stl files too. What don't I understand here? I will reslice the cow.stl file again and use the correct printer this time and see what happens. Thanks for your help.

No the specs mean the SLICER can use stl files, the printer itself can ONLY use .gcode files. Putting model files that haven’t been sliced on a printer is pointless as they just take up space on the sd card.
The other thing is the bgcode, that’s a new format called binary gcode.  It was introduced by Prusa for their new firmware versions of the mini, mk4 and xl. Older versions of the firmware on those printers don’t know what bode is either. The MK3 based boards have no idea what they are.

You can NOT use files sliced for other printers on your MK3 without having potential problems. Always slice model files for the printer and filament you intend to print them with, in general they are not interchangeable.

RE: printing from sd card

God morning Jara8,
The file appears to have been created for a mk4 printer,

COW_0.4n_0.2mm+PETG_MK4IS_38m.bgcode

and I believe that you have a mk3 printer.

the gcode file title should be more like the one below
Tiny Cow_0.2mm_PETG_MK3S_55m.gcode

Tiny Cow_0.2mm_PETG_MK3S_55m

It would appear that you are using an incorrect slicer profile.
Please use the Prusa Slicer Config wizard to add the Mk3S and Mk3S+ profile, to Prusa Slicer, and use that profile to slice the cow STL

Note, the Mk3 cannot use STL files they have to be sliced first
