Printer stops every x time and ask for filament replacement

Hi

I am printing a fairly large print (gorilla skull). However, every couple of hours my printer stops printing, beeps, giving a message for a filament change (push knop and pull out filament immediately). However, there is plenty of filament on the spool (still 800gr?). I am printing in white PLA.

I don't know how the problem is caused, but as the printing would without pausing, take me 3 days ... it is very often interupted and slowing down the process down, as I am often not home for a whole day ... so the printer is waiting for a filament change for hours and hours.

I have never experienced this problem before, although I have printed several similar large white objects.

Anyone a suggestion (that can be done while printing now)?

Regards

Diederik

Hello,

What printer do you own? If this is a MK3 it could be an issue with the optical sensor. If you happen to own a MK3S there could be a problem with a stuck mechnical sensor.

An upgrade to the MK3S could help if you do it right and ensure the mechnical sensor has sufficient play to move back and forth and not get stuck.

if all else fails, turn off the filament sensor. or adjust the filament sensor. they have changed the sensor up abit so we would need to know.

if it is just a mk3  just turn it off.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Two options in my opinion:

  • Turn off filament sensor like Toaf has suggested (you find the setting in the menu)
  • Upgrade to the MK3S for 25 bucks or so.

This should be a quick fix.

You could try blowing out the filament sensor with canned air.  Sometimes a buildup of filament dust on the sensor causes this issue.
