Printed parts cause PEI sheet to warp

I am printing large ASA parts in an enclosure so bed adhesion is not the issue. My 3d printed parts still warp but instead of detaching from the bed they bend the bed to conform to the warping of the part. Is this an issue with the magnets not being strong enough? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

One trick to reduce print sheet lift is binder clips in a few places around the bed.

I've had it happen with TPU outside an enclosure. I've not worried about it - but I suppose you could clip the sheet down in a few places along the perimeter.

I've had this happen with a large PETG print that nearly filled the bed.  the plate curled right up off the heated build plate lol.  I hadn't thought of clamping down the plate.

I'm definitely going to try that next time I print something I know will do it.   I print these drawer inserts in clear sunlu petg and they are nearly the full size of the bed.  They do it every time lol.  I have to design a slightly more shallow one so I'll definitely try this.

Thanks!

Cut some holes or slots in the bottom layer of the drawer insert - it's a drawer insert after all - that will help with the warping a great deal.  Goal is breaking up the long runs.  Same with the vertical parts - cut slots in them at strategic places - or emboss a diamond pattern across each long surface.

Thanks dan, I'll definitely try that next time I'm ready to print the thing.   I may just make the bottom a mesh and make a couple layer sheet to just lay in there to keep small stuff from falling through.  I defintely see how avoiding the long runs could avoid the pull when stuff starts contracting.

As a data point, the diamond trick isn't 100% effective. A recent part -- 7.5x7.5x9.5 inches -- was 80% nothing - full hex openings on all sides to reduce plastic content. 1.4 mm floor and walls. It still warped like crazy. Had to tweak the bed up to 80c to keep the floor attached.

For some things an enclosure just seems a requirement. Sigh.

Funny thing this WAS in an enclosure.   I need to change the design to be less deep and then I'll try to print it again.  When I do I'll post the .3mf so you can see what I'm working with.  For clear sunlu PETG, what bed temp would you suggest?  90?

Here's pics.  There were 2 or 3 corners pulled up.   I need to print the part again shallower to fit another bathroom drawer as well so I'd definitely be open ideas to prevent warping.  Also attached is the zipped .3mf.

Try this one.  It should be far less warpy.  The one you have is a warp nightmare if you ask me.  I have employed some tricks (slots) to break the long runs up.  It should still look aesthetic, and I would doubt things fall out unless you mean powder or liquids.  This one will NOT hold water.

Oh interesting!  That's a really good idea.   Let me rig this up with a shallower depth to fit the smaller drawer.  The drawers are all the same withd, but the top drawer is shallower than the bottom.  This looks like it could definitely work better!

Thanks Dan!   I'll see if I can get to testing it this evening.

I'd like to add that was one of the first things I designed and tried to print since I got into 3d printing in Nov.  It seems like AGES ago now 🙂

If the part needs to be 'water tight,' its just small enough you could add some mouse ears to help distribute the stress away from the corners.

For grins, here's the basket that shows even wide open spaces sometimes don't help with warp.

nope, it just holds like tweezers, cotton swabs and nail clippers.  I think Dan's idea will work just nicely.  I'm about to rig up the shallower version I mentioned since that's the version I actually need to print now and I think the reduced run lengths will do the trick.  I just took some fresh measurements and I'm going to model this up in blender real quick, including those cut-outs.  I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks!

oh wow lol   really pushing the bounds of that build volume lol.

Most people do not pour water into their bathroom drawers - so I figured some 2mm slots in an attractive pattern would solve the issue.

you're right, unless it's by accident of course.   I'm currently modeling up a variation in the more shallow drawer.  It's a bit silly you have to do this, but hey it's the nature of the beast right?

How about this lol.  Dan I used your ideas about breaking up the long runs.   What do you think?  I think I might try to print this puppy.
