print problems

Hi! I'm looking for some help with some prints. I've had my printer a few weeks. I've had some pretty good luck with some prints and then some pretty bad luck with others. Main issues are globbing and stringing causing prints to get pulled off the bed. See attached pictures. I'm made sure the print bed was clean. I've tried 91%IPA, Windex and Acetone. I've tried adjusting the retraction to 2mm. I've lowered the extrusion temperature from 215 to 210. I'm printing with Prusa PLA Filament. I'm using the PrusaSlicer version 2.2.0. I also updated the firmware on the printer a week or 2 ago. Printing on the Prusa MK3S Kit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

RE: print problems

Most of this problems are:

Not a clean bed,(or to new),

and not low enough, first-layer calibration.

Clean bed with dish soap a few times, clean with a clean paper towel, then print.

Then adjust the first layer calibration, in the picture it is to high.

A clean bed and a good pressed down first layer, makes a good sicking print.

This will also help against a big ball of filament sticking to the nozzle, after a whole night of printing.

For petg, clean bed, then spay window cleaner on bed, wipe it dry, window cleaner leaves a layer behind, so that petg does not stick as hard, if use no window cleaner, you will damage you pei sheet.

With a powder coated sheet use nothing, only clean with dish soap.

RE: print problems

I agree with the above, but one thing I think I noticed (could not tell 100% for sure from the photo) but it appears that the far end of your priming strip is curling upward off of the surface.  I've found this to be a tell-tale sign that the temperature of the print bed has not stabilized and is not yet warm enough. (Or, obviously, a dirty plate.)

One thing I've learned to do is to be sure the machine is stable at the desired temperatures.  I've found that it's more important with ABS, but if I find the priming strip on a PLA print curling upward, I will abort it, let it preheat for maybe 5-10 minutes more, and repeat, and usually that will help.

RE: print problems

Thanks for the advice. I have washed the print bed with dish soap. Preheated the printer for about 10 minutes. I ran the first z calibration. See pictures. I've just kicked off the print job, we'll see how it goes.

RE: print problems

Had to step away from the printer. But I came back to this.

RE: print problems

I think this was a partial clog. I tried to reprint after the above picture and no filament came out. Did a cold pull and it seems to be working now. Thanks for all the advice.
