Print PETG or PLA on 0.2 mm PVC-sheet?

Hi,

I am new to 3D-printing and only recently successfully assembled my MK3S kit. 😀

For one idea I have in mind I would like to print letters etc. directly onto a thin (0.2-0.3 mm) sheet of transparent PVC.

It would be a kind of "lamp shade" with visible text. The PVC would serve as a base for the text and allow me to get exact positioning and no necessity for supports for inner parts of the letters like O etc.

Has this been done? Does it sound feasible?

I would need to fix the PVC sheet somehow on the bed and also would need to adjust the starting point of the Z-axis to be 0.2 mm higher.

Thank you very much!

Jan

Solved.

I did some tests today and with a number of color changes, I can print also the white layer directly from PLA - no need for the PVC.

Ah misunderstood what you wanted. Yes, same material color changes are straightforward. @joantabb is expert on the process. I've done some 2 color signs.

If you did actually want separate letters but didn't want the PVC sheet (or couldn't get it to work), you could print them with bridging, mark the position of the letters then break away the bridging.

You might find this thread  helpful, multi-color without MMU it's gotten pretty long but worth reading all the way thro.
