Please help with slicing this cap model

Hello

I have this model and you can see i have sliced with Slic3r 1.41.2 support enabled with standard values. Slic3r add support at the front of the model but not in the center. As you can see in the next picture the next layer is a full covered layer. So the printer needs to print about 5cm in air.

Would this working? I guess not. If i slice the model with Cura i have support in the center (see picture 3).
Is this an error with slic3er ? I have tried to add support enforcer but the result is the same.
I would prefer to slice with Slic3r because i think the results are better.

What should i do?

Slic3r will not put supports inside a perimeter. I think Slic3r adds a face to any part it imports, making the part manifold. A work around is to add an extra 1mm to the part, then use Slic3r's CUT tool to remove the bottom 1mm, cutting away the bottom face in a way that Slic3r understands - and then supports are possible.

Under Print Settings->Support material->Don't support bridges, uncheck this option to force supports under bridges.

This works for a lens cap model I have.

Re: Please help with slicing this cap model

I have printed unsupported bridges approaching 50mm on my Mk3.

The helix is 58mm across and the rungs are around 45-48mm. The whole thing was printed without supports. However, you are going to have unsupported areas pushing 100mm when the print head finally moves just outside the inner ring.

Is there any particular reason why you can't flip the part 180 degrees so that the large flat surface is on the print bed? I didn't know if what you were showing was just an intermediate layer and there was more on top that would prevent it?
