Pimply first layer

Guys,

I “recently” installed a PCD nozzle on my Mk3/MMU3. After sorting things out, I’m getting a really rough first layer:

The print ends up fine, with everything after the first layer coming out smooth, and a smooth final result. But that first layer has me baffled. I wasn’t getting this with the stock brass nozzle.

What gives?

Thanks. Brad.

Hi,

From the picture, the nozzle is too low and is dragging through the already extruded material on the bed. Did you redo the first layer calibration after changing the nozzle?

You always need to do that, even when changing for a nozzle of the same type.

Cheers,

Tim

Tim,

Thanks for the response. That has been my thinking.

Yes, I recalibrated the Z, but it’s very likely it’s still too low. I raised the Z-adjust once, but it didn’t get better. I only raised it a tiny bit, so it could be that it wasn’t enough. Next print, I’ll raise it again and check back.
