PETG on textured coated sheet
hey all, i've been googling around but i cant find an answer. is there any special treatments that need to be done to the new textured coated sheets when printing PETG? i've read there was some issues with it damaging the PEI sheets if not prepped properly, but the powder coated sheets seem like they would be much more resilient...? can it be printed directly on the powder coated surface?
Re: PETG on textured coated sheet
i've used windex on my smooth plate with really good results. perfect adhesion without the overbonding that results in tears
Re: PETG on textured coated sheet
yup, iv read that several times, and i think i even saw Joe do that in his getting started video. i just rewatched it and he used an alcohol wipe to clean the bed, then later said 90% IPA/windex for 'everday clearning before every print'. finally he said acetone maybe once a week to rejuvenate the bed. though, this was just realy talking about cleaning, and getting a good hold with standard PLA i would imagine. he WAS showing the powder coated sheet in the video, so all that info is applicable to the new bed.
the problem here is PETG sticking TOO WELL, and the need for a release agent to save/protect the bed, rather than something to get it to stick better.
either way, with the windex, are you spraying that on cold, then allowing the bed to heat? spray and wipe off the excess or just spray on and let it sit?

And in addition to the previous questions: Do I really need the original Windex or does any ordinary discount window cleaner work?
Re: PETG on textured coated sheet
Here's one list of non-US equivalents to Windex. I believe Jo uses something else in the video.

Joan.t has mentioned, literally, using a wipe of forehead grease. It's a bit odd, but the idea is that Windex (or anything else) contains impurities that act as a barrier to loosen the grip of materials like PETG. She describes just doing a wipe of your hand across the forehead and applying it to the bed. I've tried it, and I have not had any issues with PETG, NGEN or XT on the stickered PEI bed to date. The key seems to be not over-cleaning with these materials. Avoid fingerprints, but don't do a clean unless1st layers aren't sticking. This is a good reason to use one side for PLA, the other for PETG or other "specials".
I've also read of using talc, but that sounds messy. Letting the sheet cool fully helps with removal. Same thing for salt or sugar solutions.
I haven't found anything specific to the textured bed, so you will have to experiment and report back for those of us still waiting for them!
