Partial First Layer Roughness

Hi guys!

I have some first layer printing irregularity that I can't find any info about, probably because I don't know how to describe it very well.  In short,, this print has a large base that covers most of my PEI sheet.   Most of it is coming out perfectly, but there is a region where the layer is 'rough'.   Unless there is a LOT of jaggedness, the next layers usually go on fine.

A picture tells a a thousands words, so here it is:

Do you think my bed temp is uneven?  Or is it a problem with a warped heated or PEI sheet?   I was sure to properly clean this sheet with a scraper and 70% isopropyl before starting, so I'm pretty sure the sheet is clean.

  • Printer: Mk3S
  • Filament: Prusament Gentlemens Grey
  • Bed Temp: 60C, Extruder Temp: 215C

Thanks!

Hans

Be sure you have enabled the 7x7 mesh bed leveling feature. It used more test points for correcting for bed inconsistencies.

After enabling 7x7 MBL, if it still scrapes like that, your Live-Z may be a bit low overall. You can try adjusting it a bit higher (less negative) by 0.02-0.06mm to see if it has any impact.

Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure what the 7x7 MBL is.   Is this the 9-point automatic sensing the printer does before each print?

The 9 point is the 3x3 mesh levelling (hence 9 points).  There is a setting in the printers LCD menu to switch it to 7x7 mesh levelling which uses 49 points to create a more detailed map of the surface.
