Overlapping objects in Prusa Slicer
Hi guys,
I tried printing overlapping objects in Prusa Slicer (basically load two STL files and I move them to overlap in the Slicer) to achieve a composite object. However, it didn't go well. It seemed that the slicer was still treating the two objects as separate and created funny redundant tool paths that ultimately caused an ugly surface and lead to the nozzle crashing. Should I be able to overlap objects like this? I assumed that Slicer will treat the overlapping objects as a combined mesh and only print features that needed to be printed. Was that naive? Do I need to take the objects into something like Meshmixer and merge their meshes first?
RE: Overlapping objects in Prusa Slicer
Did you load them as separate objects (which will do what you describe and is wrong) or add the second one as a sub part of the first object (right click, add part->load)?
The latter takes occlusion into account and clips overlapping areas.
RE: Overlapping objects in Prusa Slicer
Ah, I think that's it. I loaded them as separate objects. I'll try the "add part" approach. Thanks for the advice.

@vintagepc
Thank you for this response. Fixed my issue as well. 😀
RE: Overlapping objects in Prusa Slicer
I wanted to print an object that had lettering on top. I cut it and created a separate object for the lettering. I then re-imported the lettering with the "Add modifier" (not add part) option, which on the Prusa MK3S with the MMU2S integrated the lettering INSIDE the first object, which I then proceeded to print in two colors.
In short,
MK3S >>> Use "Add part"
MMU2S >>> You might want to use "Add modifier" in some cases.

Thanks! I was struggling with this and add part was the answer.
