Oozing / Ringing ?

Hey @ all.

I startet to print some test objects a few days ago and i noticed something on this one.

Bottom layer and walls are kinda neat and pretty smooth.
Cant say that about the ears or the tail.

I dont have strings between the ears or between tail and ears but there are some zitz pointing in the direction of the nozzles movement (you can see between the ears.)

Besides that there are some rings arround ears and tail.

I already tried to fiddle with the Retraction Setting and decreasing the extruder temp about 5°C.
I got nearly the same results.
Any ideas what to tweak?

Re: Oozing / Ringing ?

I've seen similar voids and overfills like that; I have never identified the exact cause. I usually write it off to simple machine glitches or oddities in the filament. You'll see it especially well on small tall things, like print tests, where vertical posts change diameter due to a bit more filament extruding when walls go away. There s some averaging code in the extrusion firmware that keeps the flow rate changes sane, that may be one part of the problems I see. Also, it's my guess retraction at one point under-extrudes the next on one rotation; but the next rotation retraction isn't as efficient and you get over-extrusion. Since the filament routing isn't rigid from the gear to the nozzle, any flex in the filament will cause this.

Premium PTFE - more precise inner diameter - may help; but may also cause some grief since the E3D-V6 nozzle is a bit more than 1.75mm, and you often get a ridge when pulling filament that may have problems when pulled back through "premium" PTFE. And, the design also has a section without PTFE that is also wider than the filament, letting it move.

But these are guesses. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in.
