Object not sticking to raft

I don't use rafts very often, so if I'm missing something obvious, please point it out.

I have an object that requires a raft and support. The first layer adhesion is great and the raft looks perfect. However, the first layer of the object itself won't stick to the raft. I am using Slic3r and have the following settings:

The first raft layer prints at 0.20 layer height and the second raft layer prints at 0.50. However the object itself doesn't begin printing until 1.00. A full half mm above the raft. The results look like this:

If I lower the Contact Z distance any, then the supports won't break away from the object, so it must be something else.

No one's seen this or has any advice?

To be honest I haven’t used a raft. From my understanding they are needed for support of tall skinny objects and to help adhesive to the bed. So my question do you really need one?

Svae the print and your settings in a 3MF file using Plater->Export and attach it here so we can take a look. Otherwise, there are too many possible variables to guess at.

The model has a large fillet at the bottom and needs support to pull this off as the first couple of layers are roughly at a <10 degree overhang. Using support without a raft won't connect until the 3rd or 4th layer and the print fouls up before then, hence the raft to try and pull it off.

When I try to upload the file the forum responds with "Invalid file extension: .3mf" It seems you can only upload images? I've tried changing the extension to png, which allows me to upload, but shortly after the system deletes the file.

Zip the file and upload the compressed file.

Well, it was interesting but likely not too useful for you. I printed using your exact settings. I did a partial print using the settings imported from your 3MF file without any changes. I've never printed a full raft before, so watching the detail print was fascinating:

The results were very even and consistent, and seemed to peel off as I'd expect a raft to do. I didn't see the distortion between layers that you seem to have experienced:

However, I got much nicer underside results and the same curved detail just printing with supports and no raft (although my extrusion rate is a bit low):

I've never had to use a raft with my Mk3. I will very occasionally use a brim for tiny parts, but never for anything so large as this print!

Curious. Well thank you for trying it out. Perhaps the brand of PLA I was using doesn’t stick that well at that much separation.
