Nylon or polycarbon ?

I want to make to make something tough, e.g a carrying hook for shopping bags.
Which material is better? Nylon or PC (polycarbon)?
I think polycarbon is weaker then nylon but easier to print, am I correct?

Re: Nylon or polycarbon ?

Nylon or Polycarbonat (PC) are both not easy to print.

Both materials are very durable but since there are a lot of different filament varieties from different manufactures on the market it is hard to give a general statement about their properties.
E.g. taulman has a variety of different nylon filaments and there exists PC with carbon from 3dxtech.

I think in general one could say both are very tough/durable but PC has a higher glas transition temperature (Tg) (although the nylon Tg is also pretty high).
For a shopping bag hook I’d try Colorfabbs nGen first. Because it has a Tg of 85°C , is tougher than PLA, and very easy to print. It might be sufficient for your application.

You probably are over thinking this. I printed a shopping bag carry hook, a simple rectangle with three hooks coming from the bottom, this one on thingverse:

And i printed it with the included Prusa silver PLA at 60% infill and honeycomb pattern and its rock solid. Ive carried easily 80lbs of shopping bags with it and no issues. PLA or PETG should be more than strong enough for this.

I printed 3 of these, 1 each in PLA, ABS, and PETG to test how they would survive in a hot car in Texas. ABS and PETG were fine but the PLA one got soft enough that the hooks would stretch and then break.
